studio lola is a nairobi-based atelier
our story
“Intentionally crafted… inherently slow”
Built on the principles of sustainability and conscious consumerism, Studio Lola combines heritage craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics to create timeless silhouettes.
A Nairobi-based atelier that began as a social enterprise in 2021, Studio Lola was founded by Sarah Saleheen and born through the CSR programme of Boho Eatery. At inception we focused primarily on training, employing and empowering single mothers and HIV+ women from maginalised communities. Today we have a wonderfully diverse and inclusive team and in 2025 we launched our ready-to-wear line.
“Thoughtfully designed… exquisitely handmade”
A loving diminutive of the Spanish origin name, Dolores, meaning sorrows, our name pays homage to the hardships our female artisans have experienced and equally imbues the qualities of the liberated and confident woman they are today. Lola is a playful expression that embraces femininity, joy and momentum.
Our collections are entirely handmade, piece-by-piece, and are composed of natural fibers, coloured using botanical dyes, crocheted, beaded and embroidered by hand.
“Inspired by nature… crafted with nurture”
Vision statement: To redefine luxury through compassion: building a word where craftsmanship thrives, communities flourish and fashion exists in harmony with nature.
Purpose statement: To honour heritage, craftsmanship and empower artisans by creating timeless, hand-crafted pieces that nurture people and the planet.
Mission statement: To preserve the artistry of heritage craftsmanship while empowering marginalized artisans through thoughtfully hand-crafted creations made with integrity, skill and respect for the earth.
